Last week I talked about my personal journey of saying or going. Perhaps it appeared like I had it all figured out in advance. You know what? You never have it all figured out up front. The future is what we think it will be, but rarely lives up to the dream we have cultivated.
How it really works is a bit like golf (which I don’t play). You commit to hitting the ball as far and accurately as possible, then you go to where the ball lands and figure out where you are, which club to use and so on. If you are very, very, very lucky you may get a hole-in-one…but let’s be serious, you and I both know that’s not a plan…that’s a wish, a dream, a desire.
Wishes, dreams and desires aren’t plans. They are fantasies of how we want things to turn out. The truth is big dreams are more likely to turn out the way you want when you have a plan, even if all the details aren’t exactly what you’d hoped.
I’d bet every single successful person has had coaching and followed them up with action plans. Gates didn’t “wish” Microsoft would exist…he had a plan. Oprah didn’t rely on “desire” alone to be successful, she had plans. Space X didn’t come into existence only because of a “dream”, Musk made a plan. I think you get my point.
I guarantee they didn’t know where the journey would end. Sure, they had the desire, but desires mean nothing unless you make a plan to manifest them into existence.
As a coach, I turn wishes, dreams and desires into plans, which turn into reality for my clients who work their plan.
